Vukovi Interview

So, you guys have been waiting a pretty long while for Trees to come round. What can we expect from your set today?

Hamish: “Yes, three years of pent up frustration. I was literally just saying that, it’s funny because we’ve had this booked for three years and since we’ve released five new songs, released an album so coming up with that set is quite hard - do you know what I mean? There’s a lot of music but we were just like ‘what’s the best live songs?’ and chose the ten songs from that”

It’s definitely interesting to think about how different your set will be today, compared to how it would have been - had you have been able to play when you were originally booked.

Hamish: “Yes! 100%. Honestly - I think it’s better. It’s way better, cause some of the new songs are quite good live songs. Well, I think haha, we hope! Yeah so, hopefully it goes off”

Is there any particular song you’re looking forward to playing today? Any favorites?

Hamish: “F**k yeah. Can I swear sorry? Is that okay? Urm, probably ‘SLO’, we released a single called ‘SLO’ back during Lockdown and that quickly became one of the best live songs. Since then, we’ve released a single called ‘HADES’ about a month ago and that’s gone down quite well, but you don’t really know until you play those new songs live and we haven’t played it yet so I’m a wee bit apprehensive. Things like ‘Run, Hide’ and ‘La Di Da’ have been out years and years and go down well, so we’re relying on those haha. Probably the new singles, because I want to see whether people like them or not!”

You’ve recently announced a headline tour for October to coincide with the release of your new album, playing some of your biggest venues yet.

Hamish: “Hell yeah. It’s nerve wracking, so nerve wracking because it’s like, I feel even though everyone wants to go to shows right now, I feel like ticket sales for stuff - the tour is actually selling really well but at the same time a lot of bands are touring in October right now. Like everyone, it’s wild man so we were really nervous about that. We’re finally going to Europe to headline aswell and we’ve been trying to do that for three years as well. I’m nervous, but because we’ve got the new record coming out I’m quite confident that it will be good. I’m just excited man”

It must be gutting for you guys because you’ve got several friends also touring in October so you’ll be overlapping.

Hamish: “Yeah, like Wargasm are playing Birmingham the exact same night we’re playing there so it’s like f**k’s sake. They’re really good friends of ours and we’re also playing the same night The Pretty Reckless are in Newcastle, same night as PUP in London it’s just like c‘mon! But, we’ll just see how it goes. Bring it! I’m ready for the competition let’s f**king go, I’m ready”

For anyone new to the band, could you sum up who Vukovi are? And who are your  influences as a band?

Hamish: “If they like sci-fi rock, our music is kind of like, we’ve tried to not make it too real. A lot of it is very themed and sci-fi. A lot of the new stuff has a narrative behind it, like the album is a bit of a concept album so if you’re into any of that s**t, any progressive rock with a pop vocal - you’re in! We need to play America though, we’re gagging to play in America! That’s one thing, you know what I mean? Please request us to come to America haha”

Lastly, any dream collaborations or things on your bucket list for the band?

Hamish: “That’s fucking hard. I mean, I know a few Janine would love. Probably like Oli Sykes on a track or something like that. Do you know what? I’d f**king love Grimes on a track. We’ve never really done anything like that as well. We actually starting doing a collab with Wargasm and we just never really…I think we finished maybe 80%? And then Wargasm just got super busy - which is totally fair enough! That song is sitting sort of waiting to maybe be a thing one day, but I think it will be a while because Wargasm have the world in their hands right now. You know what? That Wargasm collab, hopefully that’s the next thing but no pressure they’re the busiest band on the planet, so totally get it”

Fingers crossed we get to hear it some day!

Hamish: “Hopefully, I mean I f**king love those guys so much, they’re the best. They work hard as f**k. So Grimes and Wargasm haha”

Maybe try poaching Grimes to hop on that track!

Hamish: “Oh my god, she could finish the end of it. That would be so sick”

*In runs Janine and a whole lot of laughter*
