Single Review from Matthew Powers insomnia music mag Journalist

Erra has begun the cycle of releasing singles for their upcoming album, CURE, which drops on April 5th. We have already heard the title track and Pale Iris, now the band are sharing the third single Blue Reverie.

It’s been interesting to note how the dynamics are being played around with a little differently than in past Erra songs. Blue Reverie goes two full cycles of verses and choruses without introducing any heavier elements or screams so that when they’re introduced, they really hit hard. The normal vocal trade-off between singer/guitarist Jesse Cash and screamer JT Cavey doesn’t happen until over halfway through the track. A beautiful effects-laden clean guitar prog riff comprises the main bones of the majority of the song before the angular down-tuned guitar comes djenting in for an effective change to the soundscape that persists until the song ends.

The majority of Blue Reverie is beautiful and takes its time to reveal its teeth. When it does start utilizing heavier elements, they come across as refreshing and attention-grabbing. Erra have always been a group of excellent musicians and songwriters and with the songs heard from Cure thus far, that sentiment is not being challenged.
