While listening to post-hardcore newbies Dystoria, I was transported back to the late 90s when lush soft rock was all over the radio. For a genre built almost exclusively off nailing a specific vibe, the execution of the sound is vital. Dystoria nail a potent combination of modern shoegaze-esque post-rock ala Balance & Composure or Basement with the hit potential of a 90s alternative band like Silverchair.
Prawler entrances the listener with a melodic reverberated guitar lead-in built off a tribal arena drum pattern before its chorus comes exploding in with vibrant colors. The guitar line is repeated throughout the song but never loses its allure and the vocals sit just right in the crisp mix. Dystoria recently released their debut album ‘Lace’ last Friday, March 15th and Prawler is just one example of its beauty and potential. It sounds like Dystoria have a bright future if they keep up this quality of songwriting.
