Live Review

Rising British singer-songwriter Mimi Webb; known for her emotion fuelled anthems, embarked on her first headline tour in celebration of debut release, ‘Amelia’Ahead of the sold-out spectacle, her adoring fans queued round the block in Birmingham - all desperate to secure the best view in the house.

As the lights dimmed prior to Webb’s appearance, a spoken word intro echoed through the venue which saw Webb open up about mental health struggles, before directly addressing the crowd which built anticipation. Stepping out onto a bright lit platform, Webb’s silhouette was a bold welcome as she launched into recent single, ‘Ghost of You’ which set the precedent for the show ahead. Met with mass hysteria, a wash of white lighting revealed the pop star sporting a bedazzled all-in-one catsuit.

With her ‘Amelia’ album performed in its entirety, career kick-starting anthem ‘Good Without’ made an appearance very early on - a rather surprising decision but a solid performance nevertheless. The crowd; predominantly consisting of young females, were in awe of Mimi’s ability to command the stand as she performed with accuracy and grace. The closeness in age between fan and artist means that Mimi Webb is an artist whom individuals can resonate with. Her music addresses themes of heartbreak and loss; as well as female empowerment, all of which are experienced by young females alike. When transformed into a live setting, a story unfolds right in front of you, which goes hand in hand with Webb’s fierce stage presence.

Closing the show with tracks ‘Red Flags’ and ‘House on Fire’, it’s safe to say that Mimi Webb left a longing impression on the city of Birmingham.
