Kiera Marsland Interview

In this exclusive interview, we delve into the creative journey behind Kiera Marsland's much-anticipated single "Infiel." As a Liverpool-based music artist with dreams of being a rockstar since childhood, Kiera's passion for music blossomed in school choirs and shows, and she began writing songs at just 15. Over the years, she has led multiple bands and played in famous venues across Liverpool, including Zanzibar and Jacaranda. Now signed with Big Condo Records, she has been tirelessly working on her debut EP.

Kiera shares how "Infiel," similar to her debut single "Annie," started as a collaborative concept and has since grown to hold personal significance. Working with the immensely talented Brian Hobbs, a long-desired collaborator, brought a unique artistic touch to the track. Unlike her previous works, "Infiel" showcases a different musical style, highlighting the limitless possibilities in music creation. The song's development, spanning back to her college days and enriched by close relationships, adds a dynamic call and response aspect to the verses.

This year has been monumental for Kiera, performing at the Liverpool Cobalt Eurovision, the BBC Community Awards, and winning the artist of the festival award at The Big Condo Records Weekender. As the release date for "Infiel" approaches, exciting promotional events are planned in Liverpool and Chorley. With hopes of further collaborations and a commitment to staying genre-fluid, "Infiel" stands as a testament to Kiera's evolving vision and dedication to connecting deeply with fans. Her new single "Infiel," featuring Brian Hobbs, will be available on streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music from August 9th.

What was the inspiration behind your new single "Infiel"? Can you share the story or message that the song conveys?

There wasn’t much personal experience related to the song at the time it was written. Similar to my debut single “Annie” it was concept brought to me by a friend I was writing with at the time that we created together and in the years past I have grown to relate to it.

How did the collaboration with Brian Hobbs come about? What was it like working with him on this track?

Brian was always someone I wanted to collaborate with and after much consideration he was the one I knew could do what this song needed. He’s so talented and I couldn’t be more grateful for his artistic input on this track.

How would you describe the musical style of "Infiel"? Does it differ from your previous work?

It definitely differs from my previous work but that is what I love about what I do. There is no limitation to what a human can create, and I feel this single shows the opposite side to what I’m capable of.

Can you walk us through your songwriting process for "Infiel"? How did the song develop from an idea to the final version?

It started about 7 years ago when I was still in college where I collaborated with so many talented people. Infiel blossomed from a very close relationship I had with one of my peers hence the call and response aspect within the verses.

With the single set to release on August 9th, what strategies are you employing to promote it? Are there any special events or promotions planned?

Well we are actually going to be doing a double single launch for this song as my partner in song Brian Hobbs is from the lovely town of Chorley. We are going to launch it in both Liverpool and Chorley.

What does "Infiel" mean to you personally? Is there a particular moment or experience that made this song special?

As much as it reminds me of easier times when I was in college and the song was created. My experiences that have allowed me to relate the song have made more relatable to me and I hope with my eagerness to release it that people feel the same way.

Can we expect more collaborations with Brian Hobbs or other artists in the future? What other projects are you currently working on?

Hopefully so yes. There are many people in the industry I would like to work with. On the same label as me alone I would love to work with Charlie Ekins on another project similar to our cover of creep.

How important are Spotify playlists and radio plays for promoting your music? Do you have any specific playlists where fans can expect to hear "Infiel"?

I’m not aware of any playlists as of yet but I believe they are one of the most important places for people to discover new music as I myself still use them to find new sounds and influences.

How do you like to engage with your fans? Do you have any special plans to connect with them around the release of "Infiel"?

Instagram is my favourite form of social media as there is multiple different forms of context that you can produce on there. Sometimes I do struggle with content to put out but I appreciate the people who still show their support no matter how long it’s been.

What are your goals for the rest of 2024? How does "Infiel" fit into your overall vision for your music career this year?

Infiel is an example of how broadly the music I want to create spans in comparison to my debut single Annie. I’ve never wanted to be boxed into one genre and I think this song is just the first example of that. I can’t wait for the future and for my supporters to see everything I have to offer as an artist.
