Show Review

Let's address the obvious: despite multiple flash flood and tornado warnings, a massive crowd still turned out for this band—clear evidence of their existence is something special. Imminence has been on tour since the end of April with supporting bands Of Virtue and Catch Your Breath. This Wednesday evening of the Nashville stop was something out of the movie twister. Throughout the day, concertgoers anxiously awaited the possibility of the show's cancellation due to inclement weather. Fortunately, at 6:30, the doors finally opened, signaling that the show would indeed go on. Both supporting bands did an amazing job amping up the crowd for the evening playing hit songs the crowd really seemed to enjoy. At roughly 9:10pn the lights dimmed, and ominous music started to play as the techs finish setting the stage for the headliner.

If you have ever listened to metal music and thought to yourself “this could use is some violin”, then you will understand how special Imminence is as a band. Something as simple as a tech holding the violin up one last time as the lights dimmed sent a low chant from front to back “Imminence, Imminence, Imminence”. And by the last “Imminence,” the crowd is screaming.  The energy from the crowd was palpable and roars erupted as the band took the stage. And just like that, The Black Tour across the United States was underway.

In a whirlwind of energy and emotion, the band burst onto the stage, igniting the atmosphere with the electrifying strains of "Paralyzed" seamlessly transitioning into "Ghost," with the crowd becoming a chorus of voices, singing along to every lyric. As Eddie Berg, the magnetic frontman, paused to introduce the band, their origin from Sweden added to the anticipation. With formalities aside, they plunged into the tour's inaugural album track, "Beyond the Pale," sending the crowd into a frenzy as the mosh pit opened to this higher energy, and also more brutal song.

The next few songs were relentless from “Erase” to “Continuum” with only brief breaks for Eddie to make a heart with his hands, which the crowd returned tenfold. The set turned to a bit more of a sing along with emotional tracks such as “Come hell or high water” and “Death by a thousand cuts” longing among the crowd it was a struggle to find someone not singing the words at the top of their lungs. After a return to a faster pace song with “Come what may” as the song comes to a close, we get an incredible solo Violin section from singer Eddie Berg. The crowd cheers and whistles while the hauntingly beautiful violin section comes to a close before the final big energy section of song.

The band then left the stage leaving guitarist Harald Barret alone on a dark stage with the only light centered on him as we get a very relaxing guitar break which saw one of the more impressive feats of the entire set, being that Harald played some of this solo with a violin bow. As the solo came to its crescendo, we saw the return of rhythm guitarist Alex Arnoldsson and drummer Peter Hanström to round out the instrumental break. With Eddie’s return to the stage, we get a brief moment of thanks for such a profound show of support and the band's first headlining US tour followed by more cheers and hearts from the crowd. The show drawing to a close with only three songs left there is a moment of silence before the opening of “Heaven Shall Burn” sends the crowd into a high energy circle pit, breaking the middle of the crowd. The next song sends the crowd into a deafening roar filling the whole room with one word “Temptation”. It seemed as if every member of the crowd knew every word from start to finish of the very popular track. As the show came to a close, last but certainly not least the namesake of both the album and tour. the band launched into closing the unforgettable evening with "The Black," a profound and soul-stirring anthem, Eddie's impassioned vocals soared, melding seamlessly with the haunting strains of his violin. As the last echoes faded, the band returned for a final bow, basking in the acclaim of their devoted fans.

If you couldn't make it to this amazing tour, look forward to catching the band's future shows and new music—they're too good to miss!
