Live Review
Earlier this year, Sea Girls released their highly anticipated second album, Homesick and their 11 date UK headline tour made a stop at Birmingham’s 02 Academy for a stellar sold out show.
Support came from Garageband Superstar singer-songwriter, Lauran Hibberd who stepped onto the stage all smiles. Launching into ‘Average Joe’ an abundance of energy; that only seemed to grow as her set progressed, was unleashed. Her grunge-esque pop punk aesthetic more than won over the crowd as she span through tracks from her latest full length release. ‘I’m Insecure’ and ‘Hole In The Head’ were both hugely received by those in attendance. Hibberd closed her set with the appropriately titled ‘Last Song Ever’, a gentle nod to the fond farewell of her enthusiastic and engaging performance in Birmingham.

Up next was of course the main event, Sea Girls. Taking to the stage, the four piece band opened with 2019 release, Damage Done and received a huge warm welcome. Fellow band members Rory Young (Guitar), Andrew Noswad (Bass) and Oli Khan (Drums) opened the set, playing an extended instrumental intro to the track, before lead vocalist and guitarist, Henry Camamile walked onstage just in the nick of time. Following suit, was Homesick album track Lucky, which despite only being the second song in, it proved to be a clear fan favourite of the evening. The sold out crowd filled front to back of devoted fans sang so loud, that at times Camamile’s vocals were overshadowed - something not all bands achieve, but Sea Girls do so with ease. There was something beautifully spine tingling about a venue of 3,800 singing “Holy s**t, Jesus Christ” in unison. Other honourable moments of the set included: single Lonely and Paracetamol Blues.
2022 has been a milestone year for the band, with Homesick reaching number 3 on the Official UK Albums Chart to have soon played their biggest ever headline show at London’s premier Alexandra Palace. We’re certain that Sea Girls will accomplish many more achievements throughout 2023, as they prove more than capable of doing so.
