Live Review
A cascade of red lighting engulfed the stage as Biffy Clyro emerge, hoisted on individual platforms - making a bold entrance to the crowd of Birmingham. Straight away launching into ‘DumDum’, a sea of arms flung into the air, it’s clear everyone was in good spirits. The show was by far one of the most visually compelling, with attention to detail that didn’t go unnoticed. From illustrations to renaissance style paintings, the visual elements add extra dimensions to an already spectacular performance. Vocalist Simon Neil demonstrates real gratitude to his fans as he engages with the audience in a way that was authentic, but not over-the-top. Spanning through their greatest hits, bangers like ‘Black Chandelier’, ‘Mountains’ and ‘Wolves of Winter’ all secured a well worthy place in the 24 track setlist. Notably missing from the evening however, was the onstage collaboration and live debut of Architects track ‘Goliath’ featuring Biffy’s very own Simon. Whilst it could be assumed due to time constraints and lack of preparation that this couldn’t happen, it did feel like a wasted opportunity. With that being said, the absence the track is a mere distant thought after both bands delivered out of this world performances. All in all, Biffy Clyro and Architects are two phenomenal bands with lengthy careers, but still top of their game. Anyone would be daft to argue that this tour hasn’t been anything more than a recipe for success.
