Live Review

An undeniable buzz filled the air amongst Birmingham rockers which could only mean one thing - Biffy Clyro were in town. Fresh from closing out this year’s Download Festival, the band embarked on their mammoth run of arena shows with pals Architects, in tow.

Brighton metalcore legends, Architects are no strangers to venues of this calibre, having headlined arenas themselves of May this year. However, playing to a crowd not solely in attendance for them was another ballpark yet, an opportunity to introduce themselves to those not yet acquainted. Opening with ‘deep fake’ into ‘tear gas’ - two numbers from their recent full length release ‘the classic symptoms of a broken spirit’. A slight creative deviation from the core Architects sound, yet a selection better suited to venues of this magnitude, whilst wooing over the crowd. Their set heavily featured their last two records, with tracks from ‘For Those That Wish To Exist’ getting their chance to shine. ‘Little Wonder’ followed suit, with vocalist Sam Carter storming the stage with equal measures of force and poise. 2018 hit single ‘Doomsday’ was the eldest track of their set, with the crowd audibly and visibly getting more enthusiastic at its introduction. The floor descended into pure carnage, much to Carter’s delight. Closing their transcending performance was hit single ‘Animals’, which undoubtedly was responsible for the band’ newfound mainstream success. In short, Architects came, saw and conquered whilst gaining some new fans in the process.
