On a cold November night, fans gathered at the 02 Academy in Birmingham to see the incredible duo Aly & AJ as they headlined the second room as part of their “A Touch of the Beat” tour. After releasing several EP’s over the years, Aly & AJ released their comeback full length studio album, “A Touch of the Beat Gets You Up on Your Feet Gets You Out and Then Into the Sun” in 2021.
Stepping onto stage in matching pinstripe suits, the duo open with “Break Yourself” and from the word go deliver a phenomenal show and demonstrate effortless vocal synchronisation throughout. The sisters and their touring band are greeted to a room filled with smiles - where it’s clear to see that everyone was up for a good time. Moving through the setlist, tracks like “Slow Dancing” and “With Love From” filled the intimate room, transforming it into a giant dance-floor - with no stationary bodies in sight.
Closing their set of course with their huge anthem and timeless classic “Potential Break Up Song”. This number felt every bit nostalgic and thus gained the biggest reaction of the night. The track recently grabbed the attention of social media, going viral on Tik-Tok. In a bid to keep things fresh, Aly & AJ performed a revamped version of the song where the track started off slow and later exploded into the edgy anthem we all know and love. The perfect end, to a perfect night.
