Show Review

Louisville Palace Theatre not only has intricate and detailed architecture, but it has incredible acoustics for a live performance. After everyone purchased their City and Colour merchandise designed by Daphna Sebbane, the seats began to fill up. As the lights dim, Georgia Harmer takes the stage to start the night. She was joined on stage with Dylan Burchell and Matt Kelly who accompanied with the keys and guitar. Her entire set was filled with smooth and angelic vocals that left the crowd in awe. Shortly after wrapping up, stage crew quickly set up for Dallas and his bandmates to take the stage.

The lights turn off. Soft instrumentals begin to play. The crowd starts cheering. City and Colour take the stage and people are yelling “Dallas, we love you!”. Starting off the show with “Meant To Be”, his vocals effortlessly soared through the room. Without skipping a beat, they moved immediately into “Northern Blues”, “Runaway”, “Thirst”, “The Love Still Held Me Near” and “Two Coins”. Taking a moment, Dallas says to the crowd, “this next song is about being kinder to each other.” After letting a few stop clapping, he goes onto say, “Notice how only three people clapped which happens every fucking night.” As the crowd laughs and claps, he repeats it again and talks about how everyone has gotten really good about being assholes to each other. Saying, “Hold a little kindness in your heart to the stranger sitting next to you. If you can’t get down with that, there are illuminated signs in the back go exit the room this concert isn’t the concert for you,” he begins to play “We Found Each Other In The Dark.” The entire show, Dallas catered to new and old fans with playing older classics like “Astronaut” and “Weightless” and newer songs like “Underground” and “Hard, Hard Time”.

Ending the set, the entire crew jammed out to “Bow Down To Love”.  The crowd was singing along and cheering the entire song. As they exit the stage, everyone is on their feet not wanting it to be over. After two minutes of nonstop chanting, Dallas comes back on stage to finish the night with a stacked encore. Singing word for word and staying on their feet, everyone in the room was entranced with how intimate the show was ending. After a fully stacked show, everyone was on a blissful high from an unforgettable experience and to be quite honest, I don’t think any of us wanted it to be over. If you ever get a chance to see Dallas and his crew live, it is definitely a show you do not want to skip on. Whether you are an OG fan or even just being introduced to them from their newest album, if you are ever given the opportunity to see City and Colour live, go.
