Man on Mars Single OUT NOW

“Man On Mars” is the latest single to be released from Mondegreen, set to be released September 13, 2023. Mondegreen is available to pre-save now at https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/bostonflowers/mondegreen.

Speaking on the new single, lead vocalist & guitarist Brad Flowers shares, “Being in a busy city (like New York City) and working in a workplace with multiple moving parts, Man On Mars touches on the interpersonal connections we must find to make it through each day, and growing a temporary armor to keep the bad away.”

-Introduce yourself and where you are from?

Hello! My name is Brad Flowers and I'm based in Brooklyn, NY. All of Boston Flowers' music was written by me, recorded at Sound Acres Studio with producer Gary Cioni, with drums recorded by CJ Kostaras and vocals/rhythm guitar/lead guitar/bass guitar recorded by myself.

-How did you choose your band name?

Boston Flowers rhymes with Austin Powers, and I always loved those movies growing up. My parents were disco dancers in the 70's so I always felt connected to those groovy vibes.

-How long have you been performing (individually and as a group)?

I have been playing in live bands for 20+ years. As I mentioned, all of Boston Flowers' music was written and recorded (except drums) by myself. I formed a 6-piece live band over the last couple months and we have just rehearsed a handful of times, thus far.

-What/who are some of your influences?

My main influences come from bands such as Third Eye Blind and As Tall As Lions. Minus The Bear is also a notable mention.

-How would you describe your musical style?

My sound is best described as melodic 90's alternative rock with aspects of indie and pop styles.

-What was the creative process for your latest single “Man on Mars”? Tell us more about the music video as well.

The main riff was written in 2016/17, but always came out as just a sound-check when playing live guitar. The full song came into reality when I was working in hospitals through the height of the COVID pandemic, as a response to the hectic environment. I learned quickly the importance of developing friendships in the workplace, and the lyrics are a testament to that effort. The music video was meant to appear like a band featured on The Ed Sullivan Show. The music video features myself playing all instruments with multiple hairstyles, I got a haircut in between shots, then I appear as the lead singer with the drummer CJ. Filmed by James Morano, he pieced all versions of myself into one video frame for the live band shots, and the rest of the shots are me with various floral-themed backgrounds.

-Do you have any upcoming shows?

My live band is playing our first show on Wednesday 9/13/2023 at Arlene's Grocery in NYC. We also have plans to play at The Paramount in Long Island sometime in October '23. There will be plenty more shows and personally arranged events in due time!

-Seeing that your debut LP “Mondegreen” releases this week, what do you look forward to the most?

I can't wait to share my music with the world. This 10-song album has a wide range within the styles of indie, pop, and alternative rock so I'm excited to share my blend that has been developing in my writing style over the last two decades.

-What are your biggest and smallest ambitions as a band?

My biggest ambition is to tour the world with other similar bands (my fingers are crossed Third Eye Blind enjoys/listens to my music). My smallest ambition is to play a show inside a tiny home.
